The Essential Metrics!:
Tenure: Contract 2 to 3 days a week
Duration: 12 months
Start date: 1st April 2023
Location: Remote (but we will make sure we get together face-to-face for fun stuff!)
Working hours: Flexible
Salary: Pro Rata £55,000 (contract value £22,000)
Progression: Potential option to extend or go full time at the end of the contract

Wowment Ltd is an exciting new tech start-up developing a platform that will connect thousands of charity beneficiaries with corporate mentors. We are building innovative new technology that will help understand and predict the outcomes of human interactions that cross societal barriers.
Our Credibility
Wowment is a spin-off from the multi-award-winning company, Goal 17 Ltd. Goal 17 pioneered mentoring programmes that are now delivered nationwide with some of the biggest UK companies and partners such as the Premier League Football Club and Premiership Rugby Clubs. The Opportunity
We are looking to recruit a part-time Data Scientist to work alongside our founder in developing a ground-breaking plug-in for our existing mentoring platform that will use AI and Machine Learning.
The IP of the innovation is currently being protected. Prospective candidates will be invited to sign an NDA so that they can receive full details of the project at the interview stage. This is an incredibly exciting project that is predicted to receive significant media and industry attention when complete.
Support
Wowment has received funding from Innovate UK under their Inclusive Innovation Award to develop this technology. Alongside the credibility this brings to the project, it will also open up opportunities to access further support from national organisations.
Wowment will work in collaboration with NICD (National Innovation Centre of Data) on a consultancy basis to support the development of this project.
Responsibilities
- Identify valuable data sources and automate collection processes.
- Undertake pre-processing of structured and unstructured data
- Analyse large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns.
- Build predictive models and machine-learning algorithms.
- Combine models through ensemble modelling.
- Present information using data visualisation techniques.
- Collaborate with engineering and product development teams for platform and app integration.
- Regular reporting on project progress
Skills
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist
- Experience of utilising NLP in data analysis
- Training/testing/deploying existing ML/NLP models
- Experience in modelling data
- Understanding of machine-learning and operations research
- Strong foundations in using Python; familiarity with Scala, Java or C++ is an asset.
- Analytical mind and business acumen
- Strong math skills (e.g. statistics, algebra)
- Problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, team player
